This manual is intended to provide the user with information necessary for participation in the Puget Sound Vessel Traffic Service. It contains the rules and regulations which delineate the service, and which are published in Subchapter P, Title 33, Code of Federal Regulations. United States Coast Guard (USCG) - Pacific Area Puget Sound, the straits of Georgia, Juan de Fuca, Rosario, Haro, and the west coast of Vancouver Island out to 60 miles off shore. Accomplished Operations: Vessel Traffic Service Puget Sound monitors approximately 250,000 vessel movements a year, comprised of tankers, cargo ships, ferries, and tug boats with tows. Shipping lanes are identified on nautical charts. A Vessel Traffic Service (Prince William Sound Vessel Traffic Service), operated by the U.S. Coas t Guard, has bee n established in Prince William Sound, Valdez Arm, Valdez Narrows, and Port Valdez. The Service is designed to prevent collisions and groundings, and to protect the navigable waters of the Vessel Traffic Service area from environ - This map illustrates the St. John’s Newfoundland Vessel Traffic Services zone. St. John’s Vessel Traffic Services zone comprises all Canadian waters between a line bearing 090° True from Cape St. Francis Light, 47°48’32”N 52°47’09.6”W, and a line bearing 090° True from Bull Head Light 47°18’39”N 52°44’52”W, including Sailing in Puget Sound or other areas with much ship traffic, a primary ongoing navigation concern is where we are relative to the VTS shipping lanes.
